Emory & Henry Volleyball Blanks Regent, 3-0, For Senior Night Win Friday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (7-21, 3-8 ODAC) completed the 2017 season with a 3-0 win over Regent University Friday night. The Wasps won the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-8 and 25-12. E&H also celebrated Senior Night prior to the start of the match honoring outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.), setter Sarah Scott (Collinsville, Va.) and student assistant Chris Benton for their contributions to the team over the past four seasons.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry opened up a 4-1 lead in the opening set and pushed its advantage to 10-4 after a four-point serving run by junior right-side hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.). The Wasps extended their lead to 14-6 thanks to a four-point run from junior defensive specialist Amethyst Crawford (Afton, Tenn.) and led by as much as 20-9. Four points in a row, including three kills from junior middle Rebecca Morehouse (Kingport, Tenn.) closed the frame with a 25-14 win.
- It was all Wasps in the second frame as they jumped out to a 10-5 lead and used a 10-point run including five-straight aces from junior defensive specialist Huntre Baxter (Blountville, Tenn.) to extend the advantage to 20-5. Junior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) closed the set out with another three aces as E&H won, 25-8.
- The third set saw Emory & Henry get out to an 8-2 lead thanks to serving runs by Singleton and junior middle Megan Stitzer (Chesterfield, Va.). The Wasps continued to put the pressure on, and cruised to a 25-12 set win and the victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Holmberg finished the night with a match-high 10 kills, adding six digs and two aces while Morehouse tacked on nine kills and a block.
- Singleton had six kills and five digs, and Stitzer finished with four kills, and three aces. Sophomore outside hitter Sam Maddox (Monroe, Va.) added four kills of her own.
- McCauley put up 30 assists, four aces and four digs while Baxter finished with five aces.
- Sophomore libero Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added at team-high eight digs and tacked on two assists and two aces.

Regent Individual Leaders
- Kana Turley had four kills and four digs to lead the Royals while Katherine McKerley added five assists and five digs.
- Cassandra Hansen put up three kills and four blocks on the night while Victoria Hirch had a team-best seven digs.

Up Next
- With the completion of the regular season, Emory & Henry will now await the release of the 2017 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Teams. The teams will be announced following next weekend's ODAC Tournament.
