Washington and Lee Volleyball Blanks Emory & Henry, 3-0, Wednesday Night

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Volleyball Team (9-8, 6-1 ODAC) remained in control of its destiny in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 3-0 sweep of Emory & Henry College (4-12, 1-5 ODAC) Wednesday evening

How It Happened
- W&L jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set and held on as E&H closed the gap to 10-9. The Generals pushed their advantage out to 20-14, and after a point by the Wasps, closed the set with five in a row.
- In the second frame, Washington and Lee pulled ahead 6-1 out of the gate but Emory & Henry fought back to get within two at 9-7. A 5-1 run gave the Generals some separation as they went on to take the second set by a 25-17 margin.
- The third stanza saw the Wasps open up a 5-2 advantage but W&L answered with a 6-1 run. With the score tied at 13, the Generals scored another six in a row and traded points back and forth as they outlasted Emory & Henry for the 25-19 win and the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior right-side hitter Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Wasps with six kills and two blocks while senior outside hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) and freshman middle Keely Doyle (Lexington, Va.) had five kills each.
- Senior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) notched 19 assists while freshman defensive specialist Abbie Jennings (Marion, Va.) and senior libero Huntre Baxter (Blountville, Tenn.) had eight and six digs, respectively

Washington and Lee Individual Leaders
- Allison Webb posted a match-high 12 kills, hitting .611 (12-1-18) while Ashleigh Meade had 10 kills on a .571 hitting average.
- Anna Soroka dished-out 33 assists and added eight digs.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry remains on the road on Saturday as it visits Milligan College for a tri-match with the Buffaloes and the Knights of St. Andrews University.
- Matches are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
