Emory & Henry Volleyball Earns 3-1 Win At Brevard To Open The Season Thursday Evening

BREVARD, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (1-0) got the NCAA Division II era of its program started with a 3-1 victory against Brevard College (0-1) Thursday evening on the road.

How It Happened
- E&H opened up a 13-9 lead early in the first, highlighted by three straight service aces by freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.). After trading points with the Tornados through the middle of the frame, the Wasps scored the final seven to claim the 25-19 victory.
- In the second set, the two squads went back and forth to an 11-all tie. A 7-3 run by Brevard made the score, 18-14, but Emory & Henry pushed to tie things again at 22. BC tied the match, 1-1, with the final three points of the set.
- The Wasps bounced back in the third opening up an 11-4 lead. E&H put up a 7-3 run later in the stanza to lead 20-12 and cruised to the 25-18 win for a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Leading 12-10 in the fourth, Emory & Henry scored nine of the next 11 points to take full control, 21-12. Junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) and sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) combined for three of the team's final four points on the way to the 25-14 set win and the overall match victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Williams posted a team-high 12 kills to go along with five blocks while Watson added 10 kills and five blocks of her own. Jones finished the match with nine kills, seven aces, 18 digs and three blocks.
- Freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) went for 18 assists and four digs while junior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) tallied a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs.
- Sophomore libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) tacked on 13 digs, seven assists and two aces.

Brevard Individual Leaders
- Ashley Hoxit led the Tornados with 12 kills and seven digs while Makenna Parkins had seven kills.
- Kaitlyn Pressley had a double-double with 16 assists and 15 digs, adding six kills to her tally as Breanna O'Shields went for six kills of her own.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will play its first home match of the season on Monday when it hosts Milligan University. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
