EMORY, Va. – The Milligan University Volleyball Team (2-7) needed all five sets but squeaked out a 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 25-13, 20-25, 15-13) win against Emory & Henry College (1-1) Monday evening.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled to gain momentum in the opening frame out to a 14-14 tie. E&H used a 6-1 run to take a 21-15 advantage and was on the edge of taking the first set, leading 24-21. Milligan scored the final five points to go ahead in the match with a 26-24 victory.
- In the second, the Wasps jumped out to a 10-5 lead but the Lady Buffs responded with an 11-6 run to tie the match at 16 apiece. Emory & Henry used a pair of three-point spurts to regain the advantage and tied the contest with a 25-22 win.
- Milligan scored the first four points of the third and never looked back, going up by as much as 12 (17-5) midway through the stanza. The Wasps and Lady Buffs traded points for the rest of the set as MU grabbed the 25-13 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
- The fourth set opened much like the third with Milligan going up 5-1 but Emory & Henry went on a 9-3 run to lead 10-8. The Wasps opened some space with a 15-11 advantage but the Lady Buffs bounced back to tie things, 17-all. E&H finished the frame by scoring eight of the final 11 points to force the deciding set.
- The two teams gave everything they had in the fifth with nine ties and three lead changes in the set alone. With the score tied at 13, Milligan got two straight kills to seal the match, 15-13 3-2.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Tenn.) led the Wasps with 15 kills and made it a double-double with 11 digs to go along with three blocks and two aces while junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) notched 11 kills and two blocks.
- Sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) went for eight kills and three blocks as freshman middle Samantha Worthy (Arden, N.C.) posted six kills and eight blocks.
- Freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) dished-out a team-high 25 assists while junior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) had a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) led all players with 18 digs.
Milligan Individual Leaders
- Carley Gregory put up a match-high 19 kills with five blocks while Ella Maiden contributed 13 kills and four blocks and Abigail Byington had 11 kills and five blocks.
- Taylor Pavich registered a double-double with 42 assists, 10 digs and four blocks while Paxton Adkins and Cameron McConnell finished with 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
