Catawba Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 3-0, Wednesday Evening

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College Volleyball Team (5-4) earned a 3-0 win against visiting Emory & Henry College (4-6) Wednesday in a battle of future South Atlantic Conference foes.

How It Happened
- Catawba got out to a 6-3 lead in the opening set but E&H came back to take an 8-7 advantage. The two squads went back and forth with the Wasps taking a 22-21 lead late. Three straight points by the Catawba Indians brought them to the brink of the first set but Emory & Henry battled back to go up, 25-24. Following a timeout at 25-all, Catawba scored two in a row to take the set, 27-25.
- In the second, the Indians led 7-1 early and pushed their advantage to 12-3. A 6-2 run by the Wasps made it 14-9 but Catawba ran off six of the next seven to push the margin back to 10 (20-10). Emory & Henry was able to get within six, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Indians took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win.
- The two teams traded points early in the third set before five in a row for Catawba gave them a 16-9 lead. The Wasps chipped into the lead and closed the gap to four, 21-17, but four of the final seven points with the way of the Indians as they won, 25-20, and sealed the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had seven kills and a block while junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) added six kills.
- Freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) went for four kills, four aces and 12 digs as sophomore right-side hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) posted five kills and two blocks.
- Junior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) tallied 12 assists and four digs as freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) went for 11 assists and two digs.
- Sophomore libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) contributed a team-high 14 digs.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Allison Bryant put up a match-high 13 kills to go along with two aces while Ashley Johnson had nine kills and two blocks. Raytchelle Miranda registered eight kill and five digs.
- Payton Medich dished out 27 assists and collected eight digs while Morgan Childress had five assists, three aces and six digs.
