UVA Wise Volleyball Escapes Emory & Henry, 3-2, In Thrilling Five-Set Contest Tuesday

WISE, Va. – The University of Virginia's College at Wise Volleyball Team (4-11) battled from a 2-1 deficit in the match and from being match-point down in the fifth set to slip away with a 3-2 win against visiting Emory & Henry College (6-10) Tuesday evening.

How It Happened
- The Cavaliers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening frame before the Wasps went on a 9-2 run to go ahead 9-8. Wise responded with five in a row and reeled off a 12-4 run to close things out for the 25-15 win.
- The squads went back and forth in the second set to a 13-all tie. UVA Wise went ahead 17-14 but an 11-4 run by E&H tied the contest at one set apiece.
- In the third, Emory & Henry led 10-6 early and after a seven-point run by Wise battled back to tie things up at 17 apiece. Down by a 23-19 score, the Wasps scored six in a row to take the set, 25-23, and a 2-1 lead in the match.
- The fourth stanza was all Cavaliers early as they built an 8-2 lead. The two squads traded points and short runs for the remainder of the set as E&H could get no closer than two (17-15). Five of the final eight went the way of UVA Wise as it forced the fifth and deciding set, 25-19.
- Emory & Henry scored the first three points but an 11-4 run by Wise put the Cavs in control, 11-7. The Wasps closed the gap to 12-11 but two in a row by UVA Wise put it on the brink of the match. E&H then reeled off four straight to take a 15-14 lead but the run used all of its steam and Wise scored three in a row to take the set, 17-15, and the match, 3-2.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) posted 18 kills while sophomore right-side hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) went for nine kills and three blocks.
- Freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) notched eight kills and 25 digs as sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had seven kills.
- Freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) dished out 24 assists and added 14 digs while junior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) also tallied a double-double with 19 digs and 13 assists.
- Junior outside hitter Savanah Keesee (Madison Heights, Va.) recorded 25 digs and five kills as sophomore libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 25 digs of her own.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Cassidy Farley paced the Cavaliers with eight digs and 12 blocks while Kelsey Green contributed eight kills, two aces and two blocks.
- Matelyn Gibson and Adison Minor had seven kills each with Minor tacking on nine blocks.
- Zoe Avery had a double-double with 19 assists, 11 digs and four aces as Rylee Waye went for 21 assists and 19 digs. Cana Davidson put up a match-high 33 digs.
