Emory & Henry Volleyball Downs Carolina Univ., 3-1, To Start Homecoming Weekend Friday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (8-10) got the Homecoming festivities started on Friday night as it picked up a 3-1 victory against Carolina University (6-7) at Bob Johnson Court.

How It Happened
- The two squads tangled for the opening points of the first set out to an 8-all tie before a 5-1 run by the Bruins made the score 13-9. CU pushed the score out to 19-14 before a 4-1 run by E&H closed the gap to 20-18. Emory & Henry would stay within reach but Carolina U. scored the final three points of the set to win, 25-20.
- Emory & Henry got out to a 6-2 lead early in the second frame but Carolina U. responded with a 10-4 run to take a 12-10 lead. The set saw six ties down the stretch before the Wasps scored four in a row thanks to a trio of service aces by sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) to tie the match, 1-1.
- In the third, teams battled to a 12-10 Carolina U. lead tie before Emory & Henry scored eight in a row to go up 18-12. The Bruins closed the gap to 21-19 but the Wasps scored the final three points to win, 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- The fourth set was all E&H as it opened up an 8-3 lead, forcing a CU timeout. The Wasps continued to build their advantage to 15-8 thanks to three in a row. Another three straight points by Emory & Henry late in the set put things out of reach as they cruised to the 25-15 win for the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) put up a match-high 15 kills and added three blocks while freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) had 10 kills and two blocks.
- Watson finished the match with four kills, eight blocks and three aces while sophomore right-side hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) added five kills and two blocks.
- Freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) notched a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs while junior Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) had 12 assists and six digs. Sophomore libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) went for 11 digs, four assists and two aces.

Carolina Univ. Individual Leaders
- Destinee Hardamon led the Bruins with nine kills and had four digs while Chiara Mottola had eight kills and four blocks.
- Kamra King posted 19 assists, 14 digs and eight kills while Regan Adams and Sarah Pickett had 11 digs each.
