Emory & Henry Volleyball Blanks Bluefield, 3-0, Friday Evening In Home Finale

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (14-11) assured itself of a winning season with a 3-0 sweep of Bluefield University (20-11) Friday at the John Rutledge King Center. The Wasps seal up their first winning season and most victories since 2016.

How It Happened
- The two squads went back and forth early to a 7-7 tie before Emory & Henry scored four in a row to take control. The Wasps built their lead out to 22-17 before four in a row by the Lady Rams closed the gap to 22-21. E&H scored back-to-back points to go up 24-21 on its way to a 25-22 win.
- The early part of the second frame was much like the first with the teams jostling for the advantage. With the score tied at 10-apiece, Emory & Henry went on an 8-3 run forcing a Bluefield timeout. Another four points by the Wasps made the score 22-14 as they cruised to the 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead in the contest.
- E&H went up 5-1 early in the third set and never looked back as all 13 players who suited up were able to see action in front of the home fans one final time this season. The Wasps built their lead to as much as seven (24-17) before the teams traded service errors to end the match, 25-18.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had eight kills and two blocks on a .500 (8-1-14) hitting percentage while junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) put up eight kills to reach 300 kills for the season.
- Freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) went for five kills, two aces, two blocks and six digs while sophomore right-side hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) had five kills of her own.
- Freshman setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) went for 13 assists and eight digs while junior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) posted 14 assists on the night.

Bluefield Individual Leaders
- Lauren Sotomayor led all players with 13 kills, adding five digs while Leslie Flores posted 10 kills and eight digs for the Lady Rams.
- Kiersten Palmbos notched 27 assists and seven digs while Georgia Lewis went for 10 digs, six assists and two aces.
