Last year, Emory & Henry went 15-11 as it played a hybrid schedule with NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA and USCAA opponents. The Wasps won their final seven matches of the year and nine of their last 10 on the way to their first winning season since 2016. E&H returns nine players and six starters from last year's squad, and welcomes eight new players including a pair of transfers.
Leading the way in the poll for the 17th-straight year is Southeast Region powerhouse Wingate University, which reached the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament a year ago. The Bulldogs picked up six of the 13 first-place votes. Tusculum University, Andesron (S.C.) University and Lenoir-Rhyne University, each of which made the NCAA Tournament last fall sit in second, third, and fourth place in the poll, respectively.
Additionally, the SAC has announced its Preseason All-Conference Teams with E&H senior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) being picked to the third team.
Emory & Henry gets the 2022 season started in the Seahawk Invitational on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27 hosted by Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. The Wasps will play Texas A&M International University and Azusa Pacific University in the first day of the tournament.
