King Volleyball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, Tuesday Evening

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King (Tenn.) University Volleyball Team (2-3) earned a sweep over Emory & Henry College (0-5) Tuesday evening in a battle between cross-border rivals. The Lady Tornado took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20.

How It Happened
- King got out to an 8-5 lead early in the first set but E&H closed the gap to tie things up at 14-all. Leading by an 18-17 score later in the frame, the Lady Tornado rattled off seven of the final nine points to take the set, 25-19.
- The Wasps opened up a 6-2 advantage in the second but the Tornado came back to go ahead, 12-9. Four in a row by Emory & Henry made it a slim, 13-12, lead but King went on a roll with a 13-8 run to close things out for the 25-20 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
-  E&H scored the first three points of the third and pushed out to a 12-9 lead thanks to a 5-1 run. With the score tied at 17, King was able to gain momentum, scoring eight of the final 11 points to seal the match, 25-20.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs while senior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) had eight kills and two blocks.
- Freshman setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) contributed 17 assists, six kills, four digs and three aces while sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) went for nine assists and three digs.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had 12 digs and three assists.

King (Tenn.) Individual Leaders
- Hailee Blankenship led the Lady Tornado with 14 kills and 13 digs while Julie Danner added 10 kills and Abigale Jayne notched eight kills.
- Katie Harless dished out 35 assists and collected seven digs.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will play its first home match of the year on Friday at 5:00 p.m. when it hosts Limestone University. It will be the first South Atlantic Conference contest of any kind for the Wasps.
