Emory & Henry Volleyball Earns First SAC Win With Sweep Of UVA Wise Tuesday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (1-6, 1-1 SAC) made history on Tuesday night as they picked up the first South Atlantic Conference victory for both the program and the College. The Wasps defeated the University of Virginia's College at Wise (3-2, 0-1 SAC) by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-15.

How It Happened
- E&H jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set, but the Cavaliers reeled off three consecutive points to even things at 4-4. The two teams traded points throughout the middle of the set to run the score even at 16-16. The Wasps would take control and win nine of the final 12 points to take the opening set 25-19.
- In the second, after an even start to the set, the Wasps grabbed the momentum and maintained a minimum four point advantage throughout the second half of the stanza to take the set by a score of 25-21.
- The Cavaliers rattled off three consecutive points to start the third set and held a 7-4 advantage after 11 points. E&H would then go on to win 15 of the next 20 points to grab control of the set and cruise to a 25-15 score. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior middle blocker Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted a team-high nine kills to go along with five blocks while sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) registered six kills, seven digs and three blocks.
- Junior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) recorded six kills and three blocks while freshman Julissa Hopgood (Lilburn, Ga.) had four kills, six digs and two assists to go along with her two blocks.
- Freshman setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) dished out 14 assists, posted two digs and added an ace as sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) went for 16 assists and seven digs.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the squad with 13 digs and went for two assists.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Kaylee Scarce led the Cavaliers with nine kills and six digs while Adison Minor registered six kills and two digs.
- Lily Gutierrez had 16 assists on the night and also registered a team-high seven digs.

- Emory & Henry continues its five-match homestand on Friday night when the Wasps play host to the Pioneers of Tusculum University for a SAC showdown. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
