Tusculum Volleyball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, Friday In SAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Tusculum University Volleyball Team (1-5, 1-2 SAC) earned a 3-0 South Atlantic Conference sweep over Emory & Henry College (1-7, 1-2 SAC) Friday evening. The Pioneers claimed the match by scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-16.

How It Happened
- The Pioneers took the lead early on in the first set, as they held a 9-3 advantage after 12 points played. The Wasps would rally and score 10 of the next 15 points to make it 14-13. The two teams alternated the next eight points until Tusculum rattled off seven of the final eight scoring opportunities to take the opening set 25-18.
- In the second, Tusculum jumped on the Wasps early as they ran out to an 8-1 advantage. E&H would battle back to draw within six, but the Pioneers held on for a 25-14 win.
- Tusculum established an early lead of 7-3 in the third set, but the Wasps battled back to draw even with the Pioneers at 10-10. The squads played evenly throughout the middle of the set until the visitors were able to take seven of the final eight points for the 25-16 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lilburn, Ga.) and sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) each registered 10 kills to lead the offensive effort for the Wasps. Hopgood also added eight digs and an assist while Jones contributed three digs and three assists.
- Junior right-side hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) recorded seven kills and two blocks.
- Freshman setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) dished out 13 assists and posted seven digs as sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) went for 16 assists and four digs.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the squad with nine digs.

Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Emiah Burrowes led the Pioneers with 13 kills while Peyton Gash added 10 kills and a block. Martina Foster registered nine kills and a team-high five blocks.
- Elise Carmichael and Carly Sosnowski each recorded 13 digs to pace the Pioneers.

- Emory & Henry returns to the court Saturday for a home doubleheader. The Wasps will host SAC foe Mars Hill University at 2:00 p.m., before taking on border rival King (Tenn.) University at 4:30 p.m.
