Carson-Newman Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 3-0, Saturday Afternoon

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman University Volleyball Team (12-2, 5-1 SAC) picked up a South Atlantic Conference matinee win, 3-0, over Emory & Henry College (1-11, 1-5 SAC). The Lady Eagles earned the win by scores of 25-19, 25-11, and 25-17.

How It Happened
- Carson-Newman started the first set on fire, as they jumped out to a 10-2 lead. The Wasps would respond by winning seven of the next eight points to trim the deficit to two. The two teams continued to trade points and the score stood at 18-17 in favor of the Lady Eagles. Carson-Newman was able to settle in and take the opening set by a 25-19 score.
- The second set was evenly-contested in the early stages, with Carson-Newman holding a narrow 10-8 advantage. The Lady Eagles controlled the second part of the set, as they took 15 of the next 18 points to win the set 25-11.
- The Lady Eagles again took an early lead in the third set, as the score stood at 12-8 after 20 points played. Carson-Newman once again took control in the second half of the set and clinched the win 25-17. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) recorded 13 kills, five digs and a service ace to lead the offensive effort, while freshman Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) contributed nine kills and a dig.
- Freshman setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) registered 15 assists and three digs as sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) added 11 assists and four digs.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the team with seven digs to go along with her two assists.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Julia Wheeler led Carson-Newman with 13 kills and two digs. Blake Cherry added seven kills, six digs and four service aces.
- Carlee Allbaugh contributed 28 assists and four digs, while Hayden Barton led the Lady Eagles with 10 digs.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will travel to Hickory, North Carolina on Friday for a South Atlantic Conference match against the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
