Coker Volleyball Escapes Emory & Henry, 3-2, In Five-Set Thriller Thursday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Coker University Volleyball Team (4-11, 1-8 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (1-15, 1-7 SAC) in a five-set thriller Thursday evening in South Atlantic Conference play. The Cobras won the match by scores of 25-20, 11-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-11.

How It Happened
- The Wasps took the lead early on in the first set. They held a 13-8 advantage, leading to a Coker timeout. The Cobras came out of the timeout firing as they won 11 of the next 15 points to take the lead 19-17 before an E&H  timeout to try and quell the run. The Cobras held on for the 25-20 set one victory.
- E&H dominated the second stanza, utilizing a 10-0 run to jump out to a big lead. The Wasps would control the remainder of the set and evened things up with a 25-11 win.
- In the third, the Cobras turned the tables on the Wasps and ran out to an early 8-2 lead. E&H was never able to get the set within four points as Coker took the win 25-14.
- The Wasps responded in the fourth set as they turned a five-point deficit into a six-point lead behind a 14-3 run. The Cobras would pull within two, but the Wasps held firm to take the fourth frame by a 25-18 score and even the contest at two sets each.
- Coker jumped on the Wasps early in the fifth and deciding set, as they took an immediate 5-0 lead. E&H valiantly battled back with four of the next five points to draw within just two. The two squads continued to trade points until the score stood at 13-11. The Cobras were able to settle down and take the deciding set by a margin of 15-11. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) led the Wasps with a double-double. She contributed 17 kills and 19 digs, with three assists and a block while sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) recorded her own double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs.
- Sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) recorded a team-high 24 assists and 11 digs for her own double-double, while senior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) had the fourth Wasp double-double with 20 assists and 11 digs.

Coker Individual Leaders
- Chelsey Blume led the Cobras with 22 kills, seven blocks and three digs. Taylor Hills added eight kills, eight digs and two blocks while Adriana Velez had a team-high 24 assists and 10 digs for her own double-double.
- Makayla Harris led Coker with 22 digs and Kendal Boland had 11 assists and two digs.

- Emory & Henry hosts the nationally ranked No. 24 Bulldogs of Wingate University on Saturday as part of  Homecoming Weekend. First serve is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
