Emory & Henry Volleyball Blanks UVA Wise, 3-0, To Earn Season Sweep Tuesday

WISE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (2-16, 2-8 SAC) picked up a 3-0 victory over the University of Virginia's College at Wise (4-10, 1-9 SAC) on the road Tuesday evening in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wasps took the decision by scores of 26-24, 25-22, and 25-22.

How It Happened
- The two squads started the opening set with a back-and-forth pace, leading to a narrow 12-10 Cavalier advantage at the first timeout. The Wasps would respond out of the break with a 5-1 run to force a timeout by the Cavaliers. UVA Wise ran the score to set point at 24-21 but the Wasps refused to concede and rattled off five consecutive points to win the opening frame by a score of 26-24. 
- The Cavaliers once again took the early lead as they jumped out to a 10-5 margin, forcing an E&H timeout. Emory & Henry utilized a 9-0 run in the middle of the set to take control at 17-13. The Wasps extended their lead before fending off a late run from the Cavaliers to take the set 25-22.
- The third set was hotly contested in the early stages, as the two teams stood even at 10-10 and 15-15. E&H held a narrow 20-18 advantage heading into the deciding points of the frame. The Wasps would hold on to complete the season sweep of the Cavaliers by a 25-22 tally.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs while senior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) added nine kills and three blocks.
- Junior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) had nine kills and three digs to go along with sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones' (Bristol, Va.) six kills, six digs and an assist.
- Senior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) contributed a team-high 17 assists and four digs while Sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and freshman outside hitter/setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had 10 assists and five digs each.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a match-high 21digs, four assists and a service ace.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Bailey Conner and Kylee Scarce led the Cavaliers with 11 kills each.
- Scarce also led UVA Wise with 17 digs while Piper Suddeth added 15.
- Suddeth had a match-high 19 assists. Lily Gutierrez contributed nine assists and eight digs.

- Emory & Henry makes the trip to Anderson, South Carolina on Friday to face the Trojans of Anderson (S.C.) University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
