Newberry Volleyball Downs Emory & Henry, 3-0, In SAC Play Saturday

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry College Volleyball Team (9-11, 4-7 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (2-18, 2-10 SAC) by a 3-0 score on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action. The Wolves won the  match by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-21.

How It Happened
- The teams traded points early on, with Newberry holding the narrow 10-8 lead. The Wolves would continue to increase their lead in the middle stages of the opening set as the score stood at 14-10. Newberry utilized multiple scoring runs to take the first set by a score of 25-17.

- The Wolves once again took an early lead in the second frame and held the 15-6 advantage. The Wasps fended off five Newberry set points late in the set, but the Wolves were able to convert and take the second stanza 25-20.

- E&H took the initiative in the third set and held the slim 11-9 lead in the early part of the frame. Both teams continued to battle throughout the tightly contested set that saw 11 ties and the score was a stalemate at 19-19. Newberry would go on to win six of the final eight points to win the set and the match 25-21.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs while sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.)  had nine kills, eight digs and a service ace.

- Junior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) had four kills, three digs and two blocks in addition to sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) with a team-high 12 assists, nine digs and a service ace.

- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a team-high 14 digs and added four assists and a service ace.

Newberry Individual Leaders
- Baylor Herlehy led the Wolves with nine kills and four blocks while teammate Taylor Hall added six kills and a team-high 13 digs.

- Paige Patrick had 12 assists, seven digs, two kills and a service ace and was supported by Avery Webb with 10 assists, eight digs and two kills

- Emory & Henry returns home on Tuesday to face Winston-Salem State University in its annual Dig Pink game. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m..
