Catawba Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 3-0, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Catawba College Volleyball Team (6-14, 4-9 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (3-19, 2-11 SAC) by a 3-0 scoreline Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play. Catawba won the  match by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-16.

How It Happened
- The Wasps jumped out to the early advantage in the first set, forcing Catawba to call a timeout with the score at 6-2. Catawba would rally out of the timeout to close the gap but E&H would push its lead back out to 15-10. The Lady Catawba Indians utilized a strong second half of the set to first tie, then pass the Wasps for the 25-22 win.
- The second stanza was a back-and-forth affair that saw the two teams deadlocked at 14-14 midway through. The Wasps went on a four point run but Catawba responded by winning six of the following seven points to take the lead. E&H would jump back ahead at 22-21 but Catawba was too much and took the frame 25-23.
- Catawba took the lead early on in the third set and never looked back. Their lead grew to as many as ten before they settled for the 25-16 win to seal the victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) recorded 10 kills, three digs and a block while sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) added nine kills, eight digs, a block and an assist.
- Freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a team-high 14 assists, three digs and two service aces. Sophomore setter Paige Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) recorded 13 assists, seven digs, one kill and a service ace.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Hayes Smith led Catawba with 15 kills and seven digs while Ashley Johnson added nine kills and a dig.
- Dara Kane had a match-high 37 assists in addition to her three kills, three digs and four blocks.

- Emory & Henry travels to Gaffney, S.C. on Friday for a SAC matchup with Limestone University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
