Emory & Henry Volleyball Defeats Limestone, 3-2, In SAC Thriller Friday Night

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (4-19, 3-11 SAC) earned a hard-fought win over Limestone University (8-8, 5-8 SAC) by a 3-2 scoreline on Friday evening in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wasps won the match by scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 15-13.

How It Happened
- The Saints and Wasps traded points in the early part of the first set, leading to a narrow 10-9 Limestone advantage. Limestone pushed their lead to 18-14, but E&H would utilize a three-point run to close the gap and force a Saints timeout. The teams exchanged runs out of the timeout and stood tied at 22-22. The Wasps closed out the frame with a three-point run to take the opening set 25-22.
- The second set began as another evenly matched tussle, with Limestone holding the 14-12 lead midway through the frame. The Saints pushed their lead out to four, but the Wasps battled back to tie things up at 18-18. Limestone settled in to take the final seven points for a 25-18 win to even the match.
- E&H started the third set on the front foot as they jumped out to the early 10-5 lead. The Wasps maintained their advantage in the middle stages of the set and led 20-16. E&H did not trail throughout the entirety of the third set and took the 25-20 win.
- Limestone took an early fourth-set lead but E&H stormed back to tie it up at 12-12. The Saints would utilize a 11-1 run en route to a 25-19 win to force a deciding fifth set.
- The Saints took an early 7-3 lead in the fifth, but once again the Wasps fought back with a three-point run to draw within just one. The two squads split the following ten points for a 12-11 Limestone lead. E&H came up clutch in the deciding moments as they closed out the Saints 15-13 to take the set and the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) had a double-double to lead the Wasp attack, contributing 12 kills, 14 digs, three service aces and a block while freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) had 12 kills, nine digs, two assists and a block.
- Freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a match-high 28 assists to go along with her nine digs, three blocks and a kill. Senior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) also had a big game as she posted eight kills, eight blocks, seven digs and a service ace.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a team-high 18 digs and added eight assists.

Limestone Individual Leaders
- Mia McMillen had 13 kills and 19 digs while teammate Josie Curran contributed 13 kills, three digs and two assists.

- Gabby Wessels posted a match-high 24 digs in addition to her five assists. Malina Harris had 27 assists, 12 digs and four service aces in the loss.

- Emory & Henry continues its road trip on Saturday with a non-conference tilt against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
