Belmont Abbey Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-0, Saturday In Non-Conference Action

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey College Volleyball Team (6-23, 3-11 Carolinas) defeated Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (4-12, 3-11 SAC) by a 3-0 scoreline on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Crusaders won the match by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-18.

How It Happened
- The Crusaders started the match on a roll, as they ran out to a 15-4 lead. The Wasps were able to chip away at the deficit, but Belmont Abbey led the entire set and cruised to a 25-16 opening set win.
- E&H started the second frame out in front and held the narrow 10-8 advantage early on. The Wasps pushed their lead out to as many as six and held the 20-16 advantage. The Crusaders would go on to win nine of the final 12 points to take the set 25-23.
- The third set began as an evenly played contest with the score standing at 14-13 in favor of the Wasps at the midway point. Belmont Abbey would utilize two different four-point scoring runs to take the lead and close out the match with a 25-18 set victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) had 10 kills, six digs and a service ace while senior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) had five kills, one dig and an assist.
- Freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a team-high 16 assists and six digs.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a team-high 10 digs and added three assists.

Belmont Abbey Individual Leaders
- Cameron Young led the Crusaders with 10 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and an assist in addition to teammate Jenna McCullough's eight kills and four blocks.
- Caitlyn Faber had a match-high 26 assists, seven digs and five kills. Baylea Botello added nine kills, one dig and one block.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Friday when they travel to Greeneville, Tennessee to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
