Tusculum Volleyball Holds Off Emory & Henry, 3-1, Friday In SAC Contest

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tusculum University Volleyball Team (11-11, 10-6 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (4-21, 3-12 SAC) by a 3-1 scoreline on Friday evening in South Atlantic Conference play. The Pioneers won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 21-25, and 25-23.

How It Happened
- The Pioneers took the lead early in the first set as they jumped out to a 10-6 advantage. Tusculum utilized runs of three and four points to increase their lead to 20-10 and cruised to the first set win by a 25-15 margin.
- Tusculum once again took the early lead as they held advantages at 10-4, 15-9 and 20-12 en route to winning the second set. The Pioneers took the frame by a 25-14 scoreline.
- The third began in a similar fashion, as Tusculum went on a seven-point scoring run to take the 10-4 lead over E&H. The Wasps would battle back to win nine of the following 10 points to flip the script and take the 13-11 lead. The Pioneers answered back to tie things up at 15-15, but the Wasps showed their resilience to take the third set by a 25-21 tally.
- The Pioneers took an early 10-6 in the fourth set but E&H responded once more to tie the set at 14-14. The two squads traded points throughout the latter stages of the set, with the Wasps holding the narrow 20-19 advantage. Tusculum came up clutch in the deciding points of the set and took the frame and the match by a 25-23 score. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) had 10 kills, seven digs and a block while freshman middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) had six kills, four blocks, one dig and an assist. Junior middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) contributed six kills, nine blocks and a dig.
- Senior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) had a team-high 16 assists, seven digs and a service ace in addition to freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with 11 assists and seven digs and a kill.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a team-high 26 digs, four assists and three service aces.

Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Emiah Burrowes led the Pioneers with 16 kills, 11 digs, three blocks and two assists. Carli Pigza added 10 kills, eight digs and a block.
- Carly Sosnowski had a match-high 27 digs and six assists while Elise Carmichael contributed 18 assists, eight digs and a service ace.

- Emory & Henry travels to Mars Hill, North Carolina on Saturday to face the Lions of Mars Hill University. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
