Carson-Newman Volleyball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, Tuesday In SAC Play

EMORY, Va. – The Carson-Newman University Volleyball Team (24-4, 15-2 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (4-23, 3-14 SAC) by a 3-0 margin Tuesday evening in South Atlantic Conference play. The Eagles, who are ranked in the top 10 of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region, won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-12.

How It Happened
- Carson-Newman surged ahead early in the opening set as they ran out to a 10-3 advantage. The Eagles maintained their lead through the middle stages of the frame and led 20-14. C-N closed out the set by a score of 25-15.
- The second stanza was evenly-contested and stood at 10-8 in favor of the visitors from Jefferson City. The Eagles held the narrow 19-17 advantage but utilized a six-point run to seal the second set victory 25-17.
- The Eagles once again used a big run early in the set to establish a lead at 10-4. Carson-Newman never relinquished their advantage and cruised to the 25-12 win to take the set and the match. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) led the offensive attack for the Wasps with eight kills and a dig. Junior middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) contributed five kills and three blocks of her own.
- Freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded a double-double with a team-high 14 assists and 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) added five kills, eight digs and a block.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Julia Wheeler led the squad with 14 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Abbey Hildebrand added eight kills, a match-high 20 assists, ten digs and two service aces.
- Hayden Barton posted a team-high 14 digs to go along with three assists.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry wraps up the 2022 season at home on Saturday against Lincoln Memorial University. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The Wasps will honor their two seniors prior to the start of the match.
