Emory & Henry Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller, 3-2, Over Lincoln Memorial On Senior Night

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (5-23, 4-14 SAC) defeated Lincoln Memorial University (8-21, 4-14 SAC) in a five set thriller Saturday evening in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wasps won the match by scores of 20-25, 25-14, 14-25, 25-13 and 15-13. E&H honored its two seniors prior to the match.

How It Happened
- The Lady Railsplitters took the lead early in the opening set, as they held the 12-8 advantage. A Wasp rally would draw things even and the score stood at 18-18. LMU took seven of the final nine points to win the first set 25-20.
- E&H responded in the second frame, as they jumped out to a 15-10 lead. The Wasps outscored LMU 10-4 over the latter part of the set and evened the match with a 25-14 win.
- LMU answered in the third, establishing an early lead at 10-6. The Lady Railsplitters would increase their advantage and cruise to a third set win 25-14.
- The trend of trading sets continued in the fourth, as E&H once again took a commanding lead through the middle stages of the set at 20-12. The Wasps forced a fifth and deciding set with a 25-13 win.
- The final set was the most hotly-contested of the match, with both teams trading points and the score standing at 13-13. E&H came up clutch in the deciding moments and were able to close out the set and match 15-13 to send the senior class out in style with a victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) led the Wasps offensively with 10 kills, three digs and a block. Freshman outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) contributed 10 kills, nine digs, an assist and a block while sophomore outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) added 10 kills, four digs and assist. Senior Carley Williams had six kills, two blocks and a dig.
- Freshman setter/right-side hitter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 assists, 10 digs, two blocks, a service ace and a kill. Senior setter Marissa Snapp posted a double-double in her final game as a Wasp with 14 assists and 10 digs.
- Junior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a match-high 32 digs and added seven assists.

Lincoln Memorial Individual Leaders
- Katie Bedel had 12 kills, three blocks, three digs and a service ace while Kristen Moehring added eight kills, 13 digs, two assists, two blocks and a service ace.
- M.J. Trujillo posted a team-high 16 digs and one assist.
