Emory & Henry Volleyball Drops Five-Set Thriller To Southern Wesleyan Saturday Afternoon

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Southern Wesleyan University Volleyball Team (3-18, 1-12 Carolinas) topped Emory & Henry College (7-13, 3-8 SAC) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors won the five-set affair by scores of 17-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-11.

How It Happened
- The score stood level at 9-9 through the early stages of the opening set, but the Wasps rattled off five consecutive points to jump ahead. E&H maintained its advantage throughout the remainder of the set and a service ace from junior outside hitter Diana Wesolosky (Midlothian, Va.) sealed the first-set win for the Wasps by a 25-17 margin.
- Emory & Henry once again took the lead through the middle part of the frame and held a 16-9 lead. The Warriors would battle back to draw within two as the Wasps reached set point at 24-22. SWU tied the match and eventually evened the score in extra points with a 28-26 set victory.
- The third set was hotly contested throughout and the score stood even at 23-23 in the deciding stages. Back-to-back kills from senior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) and senior middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) gave the Wasps the set win by a 25-23 scoreline.
- The Warriors never trailed in the fourth frame as they led wire-to-wire to even the match with a 25-20 set win.
- The two teams were tied at ten apiece heading into the final points of the deciding set. SWU finished off the win by taking five of the final six points to send the visitors from Emory home with their second loss in as many days. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hogan paced the Wasps with 16 kills, five digs and a pair of blocks while Watson added 15 kills, three digs, two blocks and an assist. Wesolosky contributed nine kills, 11 digs, three service aces, one block and an assist.
- Senior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a match-high 27 digs and three assists to go along with sophomore setter Payton Rolfsen's (Fort Wayne, Ind.) double-double with a  match-high 45 assists, 14 digs, two service aces, two blocks and a kill.

Southern Wesleyan Individual Leaders
- Emily Ellis led SWU with a double-double of 16 kills, 12 digs, two service aces and a block. Michaela Andress had a double-double with 13 kills, 11 digs, five service aces, one assist and a block.
- Hannah Wilson posted a team-high 21 assists, nine digs, one service ace and a kill.

- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday, October 24 when they host Lincoln Memorial University for Junior Wasps Night. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
