Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls To Carson-Newman, 3-0, Tuesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Carson-Newman University Volleyball Team (6-3, 2-0 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry University (1-7, 0-2 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Tuesday evening inside the John Rutledge King Center. The Lady Eagles earned the win by scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-18.

How It Happened
- Carson-Newman jumped on the Wasps early as they ran out to a 12-5 advantage. The visitors from Jefferson City continued to push the pace, increasing their margin out to 20-9. The Lady Eagles finished the set on a 5-2 run to take the opener by a 25-11 score.
- The second stanza began as an evenly-played affair as the teams were deadlocked at 5-5 early on. C-N picked up the play through the middle stages as they established a 15-11 margin at the midpoint of the frame. The Lady Eagles pushed the advantage out to 21-15 before a 4-1 E&H run managed to close the deficit to just three at 22-19. The visitors were able to close things out to take a two-set lead 25-21.
- The Wasps were on the front foot to start the third set as they held an early 13-7 lead. Carson-Newman slowly began to work its way back into contention as they won 10 of the following 14 points to tie things back up at 17-17. The Lady Eagles' offense kicked into gear in the latter stages as they took eight of the final nine points to clinch the victory 25-18.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore front row Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) led the offense with five kills, one dig and a block while fifth-year outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) added four kills, three digs and a block. Junior outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) finished with four kills and six digs.
- Junior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) posted a team-high 10 assists and seven digs while freshman setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) recorded five assists and five digs. Fifth-year libero Libby Bickelhaupt had a match-high 15 digs and three assists.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Maddie Hurst paced the Carson-Newman offensive attack as she had 11 kills, two digs and three blocks. Emerson Ahsmuhs registered eight kills, three digs and a pair of blocks while Blake Cherry had seven kills, 10 digs, three blocks, three assists and three service aces.
- Blair Cherry finished with a match-high 27 assists, seven kills and six digs.

- Emory & Henry hits the road this Friday, September 20 when they make the trip down Interstate 81 to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Pioneer Arena.
