HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (4-15, 1-9 SAC) overcame a one-set deficit to earn its first South Atlantic Conference win of the season Tuesday evening over Coker University (3-13, 2-9 SAC). The Wasps took the win by set scores of 25-22, 18-25, 19-25 and 15-13.

How It Happened
- The two teams traded blows to begin the match and the Cobras held on to a narrow 6-4 lead early on. The Wasps responded with an 8-2 run through the middle stages to establish a four-point advantage. E&H pushed its margin out to six at 23-17, but Coker struck back with four consecutive points to draw within a pair. A kill from sophomore front row Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) gave the Wasps set point, and fellow sophomore front row Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) slammed home a kill to take the opener by a 25-22 scoreline.
- The Cobras answered back to start the second frame, running out to a 15-9 advantage at the midpoint. E&H managed to close the gap to five at 20-15, but Coker was able to maintain a comfortable cushion throughout the set as they evened the match with a 25-18 set victory.
- Coker began the third stanza the same way they ended the second, tallying eight of the opening nine points. The Cobras held the lead 13-5, but another Wasps' rally, this one of the 10-2 variety, saw them tie the match up at 15-15.The home team won seven of the following nine points to give themselves some breathing room as they jumped ahead in the match with a 25-19 set win.
- The Cobras were hot out of the gates once more to begin the fourth set, winning seven of the first eight points. The Wasps would not go quietly as they mounted yet another rally through the middle of the frame, utilizing a 9-1 run to leapfrog into the lead by a 13-10 margin. Coker tied the match at 13-13 and again at 14-14, but the visitors from Emory posted wins on eight of the next nine points to take control. A kill by freshman outside hitter/setter Mollee Cutshall (Blountville, Tenn.) and a Cobra error clinched the set win for the Wasps to force a deciding fifth set.
- The fifth set was a tight, back-and-forth affair that saw the teams tied on 10 separate occasions. With the Wasps trailing 13-12, Harnichar recorded another kill and sophomore defensive specialist Avery Zuckerwar (Riner, Va.) posted a big service ace to set up match point. Another error by the Cobras proved costly, giving the Wasps the set and match as E&H escaped Hartsville with their first SAC win of the year.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Fifth year outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) was the offensive catalyst for the Wasps as she posted 12 kills, six digs, two blocks and an assist. Harnichar added eight kills, seven blocks, one dig and an assist. Junior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) finished with nine kills, five digs and four blocks. Duey registered 11 kills, two digs and a block.
- Fifth-year libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a match-high 29 digs, three assists and a service ace while junior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) posted a career-high 31 assists, five digs a pair of kills and a service ace in the win.
Coker Individual Leaders
- Cayla Gilmore paced the Cobras with a match-high 15 kills, two digs and a block while Alyssa Carey added 13 kills, six digs and a pair of service aces. Taylor Hills finished with 12 kills and eight digs.
- Maddy Roberts contributed 28 assists, eight digs and a service ace. Meadow Morse posted 22 digs, three assists and a service ace while Laila Hixon had a double-double of 21 assists, 13 digs, two service aces and a kill.
