EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (5-19, 2-12 SAC) avenged a loss from earlier in the season Wednesday evening as the Wasps swept their Southwest Virginia rival the University of Virginia's College at Wise (10-14, 4-11 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wasps took the victory by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20.

How It Happened
- The rivals traded blows to begin the opening set of the match and the score stood level at 9-9. The Wasps rallied through the middle stages with four consecutive and seven of the next nine points to run their advantage out to 16-11. UVA Wise managed to trim the deficit to three at 21-18, but E&H rallied for three straight points to reach set point at 24-18. After a point from the visitors, sophomore front row Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) slammed home a kill on an assist from junior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) to clinch the set by a 25-19 margin.
- The visiting Cavaliers came out swinging to start the second frame as they ran out to an early 7-2 advantage. Wise pushed the margin out to seven at 11-4, but the Wasps would come storming back. E&H rattled off nine straight to leapfrog the visitors and take a 13-11 lead. The Wasps continued to put pressure on the Cavaliers, taking seven of the next 10 points to balloon their lead out to 20-14 heading down the stretch of the frame. UVA Wise would not go quietly however, as a late push saw them draw within just one at 22-21. Emory & Henry settled down and another three consecutive points capped off with a service ace from freshman setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) saw the Wasps take a commanding two-set advantage by the 25-21 scoreline.
- The Wasps took control from the opening point of the third set as they established an early 7-3 margin and increased it out to 15-10 at the midpoint. Wise kept their composure through the middle of the set as they slowly worked their way back into the set, eventually tying things up at 18-18. E&H was simply too much for the Cavaliers on the evening as the Wasps finished the stanza on a 7-2 run to clinch the set and match by a 25-20 final.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Fifth-year outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) paced the home team with 11 kills, seven digs, four blocks and an ace while fellow fifth-year middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished with nine kills, six blocks and three digs. Junior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) had a big game as she added eight kills, four blocks and a dig. Freshman outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) chipped in with six kills, one block and a dig.
- Newberry had a team-high 17 assists and nine digs while senior libero Grace Nelson (Murphy, N.C.) was huge with a match-high 18 digs, seven assists and a service ace.
UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Kaylee Scarce led the way for the Cavaliers with nine kills, five digs and a service ace. Riley Brandon added nine kills, six assists and three digs while Mailea Hufnagel posted seven kills, five digs and a block.
- Piper Suddeth recorded a match-high 18 assists and seven digs.
