Emory & Henry Wrestling Hosts St. Andrews On Senior Night Wednesday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Wrestling Teams celebrated their first-ever senior night on Wednesday evening, playing host to St. Andrews University in a doubleheader. The women's team came up just short to open the action, 11-9, while the men fell by a 39-9 score.

The Basics

The Women
- The match began with three double forfeits as neither the Wasps nor the Knights had wrestlers at the 101-, 109- or 116-pound weight classes.
- SAU took the lead as Tonya Flourory defeated freshman Dafne Aguilar Martinez (Pharr, Texas) by fall in 1:44 at 123 pounds.
- Wasp freshman MaryAnne Walker (Manchester, Tenn.) won by forfeit at 130 while Jo-ellen Hutto picked up a win at 136 by forfeit for the Knights to make the score 10-5, St. Andrews.
- The 143-, 155- and 170-pound weight classes went down as double forfeits.
- At 191 pounds, junior Andreia Langley (Chilhowie, Va.) won over Elisa Holley by technical superiority, 12-2, to make the final score 11-9 in favor of SAU.
- In an extra match, Hutto defeated Walker by fall in 1:16.

The Men
- St. Andrews opened the match with a pair of wins by decision at 133 and 141 pounds before grabbing a win by pin at 149.
- A major decision for the Knights at 157 led to a pair of wins by fall at the 165- and 174-pound weight classes, putting them up 28-0. After E&H forfeited at 184 and 197 pounds, SAU held a 40-0 lead.
- At 285, junior Thomas Roberts (Luttrell, Tenn.) picked up a 14-7 win by decision.
- The Wasps closed out the match as freshman Gabe Joines (Chilhowie, Va.) won by pin in 3:33, but came up short, 39-9, after the Knights were penalized one team point for bench decorum.
- In the extra matches, sophomore Wade Wheeler (Amherst, Va.) won by fall in 2:02 at the 285-pound weight class.
