Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Competes Twice At Limestone Over The Weekend

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Wrestling Team participated in a pair of events hosted by Limestone University over the weekend. The Wasps faced off against the Saints in a dual match on Friday and also competed in the Limestone Open on Sunday.

Friday's Basics

How It Happened
- Limestone opened the match with a 15-0 lead because of three unfilled weight classes.
- E&H earned its first win of the day as sophomore Dafne Aguilar Martinez (Pharr, Texas) won at 130 pounds by fall over Alyssa Garza. The Wasps added a second win by fall at the 170-pound class with  freshman Eryn Hubble (Leesburg, Va.) topping Kalani Rivas.
- Freshman Brittney Reed (Sandston, Va.) dropped her 191 bout by decision to Destiny Baltierra, 6-5, but scored points for the team.
- Senior Andreia Langley (Chilhowie, Va.) suffered a 9-0 setback at 150 to Amalani Latu.

130-Pound Weight Class
- Aguilar Martinez earned a bye to the semifinals, losing to Presbyterian College's Sara Mari Miller by fall in 1:51. She also dropped her bout in the second consolation round to Zoey Smith of University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) (5:43) to finish tied for fifth.
- Freshman Ava Thomas (Stafford, Va.) lost to Katrina Kling, 12-2, to start the day and exited the tournament by forfeit in the first consolation round.

155-Pound Weight Class
- Langley won her first-round match in 34 seconds against University of Mount Olive's Isabella Kessey. She advanced to the semifinals with a win by fall against Taniyah Ford (5:58). Gabrielle Holloway of St. Andrews University earned a 12-0 win sending Langley to the fourth consolation round where she lost to Latu, 8-2, to finish tied for fifth.

170-Pound Weight Class
- Hubble fell, 11-8, to Cierra Abrego of Cumberlands in the first round. She advanced to the second consolation round after earning the tiebreaker for highest-scoring-action in a 10-10 bout against Maile Ka'ahanui of Liberty. Hubble exited the event tied for fifth, falling to Rivas (4:28).
- Freshman Ella Tallent (Dandridge, Tenn.) lost to Rivas, 10-0 to get things started and saw her day end against Aleksandra Bieszczad of Mount Olive (11-6).

191-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Emma Lozada (Princeton, Texas) opened competition with a loss by fall to Jada Arnold of Mount Olive in 3:30. She advanced to the third-place bout with a bye and a forfeit win before taking down Arnold in a rematch, 10-0.
- Reed dropped her quarterfinal bout to Maquioa Bernabe of Cumberlands (Ky.), 5-2. She bounced back by pinning Baltierra in 5:10 before losing to Arnold (4:03) to finish tied for fifth.
