Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Finishes Sixth At NCWWC Southeast Region Championships Saturday; Andreia Langley Qualifies For Nationals

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Wrestling Team got the postseason started at the NCWWC Southeast Region Championships on Saturday. King (Tenn.) University served as the host for this year's meet. As a team, the Wasps finished sixth out of nine competing schools and saw six of their seven wrestlers place sixth or better on the day.

By virtue of her regional runner-up finish at 155 pounds, senior Andreia Langley (Chilhowie, Va.) qualified for the NCWWC National Championships next month in Iowa.

130-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Dafne Aguilar Martinez (Pharr, Texas) fell in her opening bout to Sierra Mari Miller of Presbyterian College. She bounced back with a thrilling 16-14 win over teammate Ava Thomas before dropping her consolation semifinal contest against Limestone University's Hannah Mains. Aguilar placed fifth in the tournament, defeating Brooke Hermel of University of Mount Olive by fall (1:22).
-  Freshman Ava Thomas (Stafford, Va.) started the day with a loss to Samantha Larios of Emmanuel (Ga.) College and was edged out by teammate Dafne Aguilar Martinez in the first consolation round. She also suffered a loss to Dorothy Gerrell of Emmanuel in the seventh-place match to finish eighth.

136-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Maddie Quiroga (Mercedes, Texas) lost by technical superiority to No. 3-nationally ranked Paige Wehrmeister of Presbyterian to get the day started and advanced to the third consolation round with a bye and a win by medical forfeit. She topped Mount Olive's Chloe Lawler by fall in 1:14 before suffering a second defeat to Wehrmeister in the consolation semifinals. Quiroga finished sixth as she exited the tournament due to injury prior to the fifth-place bout.

155-Pound Weight Class
- Senior Andreia Langley (Chilhowie, Va.) got the day started with a win over Jordan Wilson from Ferrum College in 2:11. She made her way to the championship bout, defeating Limestone's Amalani Latu by a 5-3 decision. Langley finished the tournament as the regional runner-up falling to No. 6 Tiffany Baublitz of King in the championship bout (1:48).

170-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Ella Tallent (Dandridge, Tenn.) lost by technical superiority to Limestone's Journey Land to open the tournament. She also dropped a bout to Kalani Rivas, also of Limestone in the second consolation round. Tallent took sixth on the day following a loss to Aleksandra Bieszczad of Mount Olive.

191-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Emma Lozada (Princeton, Texas) lost by fall to Limestone's Destiny Baltierra to open the day and received a bye to the consolation semifinals. She suffered a setback to Jada Arnold of Mount Olive to find herself in the fifth-place bout where she won by medical forfeit over teammate Brittney Reed.
- Freshman Brittney Reed (Sandston, Va.) started the tournament with a loss to Mount Olive's Arnold and faced off against Limestone's Baltierra in the consolation semifinals, losing by fall. She exited the tournament due to injury prior to the fifth-place bout, finishing sixth.

- Emory & Henry will next compete at the NCWWC National Championships which will be held at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The meet will take place between Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4.
