Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Ranked 24th Nationally In NWCA Preseason Poll

Andreia Langley grapples with an opponent.

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Wrestling Team has received its first-ever national ranking, starting the 2023-24 season tied for 24th in the country. The poll was released Thursday by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

This marks the first time that any E&H program has been ranked nationally since the Wasps entered the NCAA Division II era in the summer of 2021. Tied with Emory & Henry at the No. 24 spot are Simpson College and Texas Woman's University.

Additionally, fifth-year Andreia Langley (Chilhowie, Va.) has been ranked as the No. 8 individual at the 155-pound weight class. Langley was the NCWWC Southeast Region runner-up last winter and was a NCWWC National Qualifier at the same weight.

North Central (Ill.) College is the top-ranked team in the country at 128 points and 13 ranked individuals while Southeast Region- and border-rival King (Tenn.) University is second with 67 points and 10 ranked wrestlers. McKendree University is third with 60 points and nine ranked wrestlers while Colorado Mesa University sits fourth with eight individuals ranked.

The NCWA's rankings use a championship-style methodology to determine the top teams in the country as if every team was competing at the same tournament. The rankings utilize similar principles as the NCWWC National Championships, awarding the same number of points to each ranked place that a wrestler would earn with a tournament finish at that spot.

Emory & Henry will open the 2023-24 season on Thursday, November 2, hosting a tri-match with Liberty University and University of Mount Olive. The first bout will be at 4:00 p.m.
