Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Downs Liberty, 33-14, In Season Opener Thursday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Wrestling Team (1-0) go the 2023-24 season started with a strong performance against Liberty University, defeating the Flames by a 33-14 score Thursday afternoon.

The Match
- The Wasps began the contest with a 20-10 lead due to six unfilled weight classes. Sophomore Ava Thomas (Stafford, Va.) and freshmen Mallory Howard (Millington, Tenn.), Natalia Sanchez (Powhatan, Va.) and Haley Viars (King William, Va.) picked up forfeit wins.
- Freshman Molly Keller (Fairlawn, Va.) picked up her first career victory by pin, felling her opponent in 45 seconds.
- Freshman Madison Wilson (Henrico, Va.) earned a 10-0 victory at 123 pounds by technical superiority in just 48 seconds while sophomore Eryn Hubble (Leesburg, Va.) was the winner at the 191-pound weight class by a 10-0 margin as well in 2:05.

Extra Bouts
- Emory & Henry earned wins in four of the seven extra bouts following the conclusion of the match. Sanchez, Thomas, Keller and Hubble each picked up victories by fall.

- Emory & Henry returns to action next Thursday (November 9) when it hosts Bluefield State University and Southern Virginia University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
