Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Competes At Tornado Open Sunday

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Wrestling Team continued its season at the Tornado Open on Sunday. The Wasps saw two of their wrestlers take third place in the event which consisted of several of the top programs in the country.

109-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Mallory Howard (Millington, Tenn.) went 0-2 on the day, losing her opening round bout by fall in 33 seconds. She exited the tournament with a loss by technical superiority (12-2).
- Freshman Haley Viars (King William, Va.) suffered a pair of losses by technical superiority, 17-6 and 10-0.

116-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Natalia Sanchez (Powhatan, Va.) opened the tournament with a pin of Huntingdon's Elizabeth Hollett in 42 seconds. She lost by fall to Evelyn Holmes-Smith from Enterprise (1:21) and exited the tournament in the second consolation round, losing to Annika Lindberg of Emmanuel (Ga.) in 3:46.

123-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Madison Wilson (Henrico, Va.) dropped her opening round bout by fall in 2:01. She exited the tournament with a 10-0 technical superiority loss.

130-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Ava Thomas (Stafford, Va.) went 0-2, losing her first bout by fall in 5:52. She lost by forfeit in the first consolation round.

143-Pound Weight Class
- Junior Skie Roulo (Chesterfield, Va.) lost in the quarterfinals over Jocelyn Mattingly of Mount Olive by pin in 1:28. She won the second consolation round against Huntingdon's Caden Collett in 1:59 before a forfeit loss in the third consolation round to tie for seventh.

155-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Molly Keller (Fairlawn, Va.) won by technical superiority 11-0 over Charniece McClarence from Bluefield State in the round of 16. She suffered a loss by fall (1:16) in the quarterfinals to move to the consolation bracket. Keller then earned an 8-6 decision against Schreiner's Azana King before dropping a 10-0 technical superiority result to Shelsy Renous from Emmanuel to finish tied for seventh.
- Freshman Mak Robinson (Spotsylvania, Va.) lost in the round of 16 by technical fall (10-0). She finished the tournament 0-2 after being pinned in 40 seconds by King.

170-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Katie Gakin (Aberdeen, Wash.) finished third overall, responding to a 12-2 quarterfinal loss to win three in a row. She beat Cierra Abrego from Cumberlands, 12-1, pinned Riauna Lugo from Huntingdon in 2:23 before taking a 16-5 win by technical superiority over Mount Olive's Savannah Bramhall.

191-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Brittney Reed (Sandston, Va.) picked up a third-place finish, going 4-1 on the day. After suffering a 7-1 loss in the round of 16, she blazed through the consolation bracket earning four wins by fall and one by forfeit. She sealed third with a pin in 4:05 over Mount Olive's Jada Arnold. She also had pins against Aaliyah Presley (2:45), Symphanie Sampson from Schreiner (1:19) and Kiley McClain (2:56).
- Sophomore Ella Tallent (Dandridge, Tenn.) went 0-2 on the day, losing 10-0 to Arnold and suffering a forfeit loss in the first consolation round.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will host Lincoln Memorial University on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Wasps' and Railsplitters' men's teams.
