Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Finishes 24th At NCWWC Championships Saturday

E&H Women's Wrestling coaches and student-athletes at NCWWC Championships.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Emory & Henry College Women's Wrestling Team concluded the 2023-24 season with a 24th-place finish at the NCWWC Championships. The Wasps sent their largest delegation to the national championships in the three-year history of the program with three wrestlers taking the mat.

155-Pound Weight Class
Freshman Molly Keller (Fairlawn, Va.) received a bye in the round of 32. In the second round, she met No. 9 nationally-ranked Bella Mir from the University of Iowa, dropping to the consolation bracket after a 10-0 technical superiority loss. Keller faced Elmira College's Skylah Chakouian in the second consolation round, exiting the tournament by fall in 3:13.

170-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Katie Gakin (Aberdeen, Wash.) got things started with a 12-2 technical fall win over Jade Huerta from East Stroudsburg University in the first round. She then took on fourth-ranked Tristan Kelly from McKendree University, suffering a 10-0 technical superiority loss.

In the consolation bracket, Gakin defeated No. 3 Haley Ward of Iowa by fall in 1:32. She concluded action in the championship, losing to No. 6 Love Daley from Sacred Heart University (11-0).

191-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Brittney Reed (Sandston, Va.) opened the tournament against No. 3 Jaycee Foeller from Iowa, losing 14-4 by technical superiority. In the second consolation round, she beat Cassidee Easy from Alma College, 10-0. Reed concluded the tournament, falling to University of Mount Olive's Jada Arnold in 2:26 in the third consolation round.

Looking Back
In addition to sending the most wrestlers in program history to the national championship tournament, Emory & Henry also posted its best dual record in program history, going 8-6 overall.
