
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Wrestling Team returned to action on Saturday at Huntingdon College's Red Lady Open. The Wasps finished sixth out of 11 competing teams and saw three of their eight competitors earn top-6 places in the event.

117-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Natalia Sanchez (Powhatan, Va.) opened the day with a 10-0 technical superiority win over Dyani Baerga from Florida A&M in 26 seconds. She dropped to the consolation bracket after a semifinal defeat to Ro Adeduntan (2:37). Sanchez lost her first consolation bout to Emely Mejia-Martinez from Newberry by fall in 1:43 and finished sixth in the tournament after forfeiting the fifth-place bout.
124-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Madison Wilson (Henrico, Va.) went 0-2 on the day, dropping a pair of bouts by fall to unattached wrestler Evey Hill (1:50) and Lindsey Wilson's Sydney Bridenstine (1:04), who is the No. 19-ranked wrester in NAIA.
145-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Molly Keller (Fairlawn, Va.) defeated Lilly Luttrell of Presbyterian by a 7-2 decision. She lost in the quarterfinals to Mina Himmel from Central Methodist (3:55), before bouncing back with a victory over teammate Natalie Giocondo in 19 seconds. Keller exited the tournament after losing by technical superiority to Maegan Flaherty from Central Methodist (10-0).
Sophomore Natalie Giocondo (Dumfries, Va.) went 0-2 in the event, losing her opening round bout to St. Andrews' Teresa Dawn, 12-0. She faced teammate Molly Keller in the consolation bracket, losing by fall in 19 seconds.
160-Pound Weight Class
Freshman Rihana Carson (Roanoke, Va.) opened the day with a 10-0 loss to Isabella Gretzinger from Presbyterian. She earned three straight wins by fall in the consolation bracket, defeating Savannah Pitts (Huntingdon; 2:59), teammate Skie Rice (3:43) and Samantha Hauff (Presbyterian, 5:18). Carson placed fourth in the event, losing to Poorna Babu from Texas Woman's, 11-0, in the third-place bout.
Senior Skie Rice (Chesterfield, Va.) lost both of her bouts by fall. She dropped her opening round matchup to Morgan Norris from Presbyterian in 48 seconds and ended her day after falling to teammate Rihana Carson (3:43).
180-Pound Weight Class
Junior Ella Tallent (Dandridge, Tenn.) went 0-2 in the event, losing to Pauline Grace Heimuli from Texas Woman's, 10-0 (2:06) in the opening round and falling to Ellie Pickett from Central Methodist (1:52).
207-Pound Weight Class
Senior Emma Lozada (Princeton, Texas) was fourth in a round-robin competition, going 1-3 on the day. She lost her opening bout, 12-2 (2:46) to Avianna Velarde from Newberry before also suffering a technical superiority loss to No. 13-ranked Maria Aiono of Presbyterian. Lozada got a victory by fall in 1:21 over Jaycee Portee from Texas Woman's and lost to Lindsey Wilson's Alyssa Pinkston in 50 seconds.
