Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes At Royals Cross Country Challenge Saturday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams continued their season on Saturday morning at the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University of Charlotte at McAlpine Creek Park. The Wasps posted solid times in both races against a field comprised of mostly NCAA Division II schools. The men's team finished 13th of 22 non-Division I schools while the women were 17th out of 25.

In the men's 8K race, sophomore Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) led E&H turning in a time of 27:59. Junior Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) was second for the Wasps, running a 28:06 while freshman Michael Cawood (Louisville, Ky.) came in third (28:26). Rounding out the top five for Emory & Henry was sophomore Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) and freshman Seth Hein (Fairfax, Va.) as they posted times of 28:46 and 29:41, respectively.

Silos Too of Shorter College won the overall race as he ran a 24:08 while Tennessee Wesleyan College placed four runners in the top 10 to earn the team championship.

On the women's side, E&H freshman Meg Greene (Charlotte, N.C.) ran a 19:58 over the 5K course while freshman Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) clocked a 22:23 to finish second on the team. Freshman Olivia Wyatt (Independence, Va.) and junior Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) were third and fourth with times of 22:27 and 22:28. Junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) finished fifth for the Wasps (23:03).

Wake Forest's Samantha Jones ran a 17:20 to win the overall race while the team title went to Savannah College of Art and Design which had three runners in the top eight.

Emory & Henry will race next Saturday at the Berry College Invitational, which will also be the site of the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional meet in November.
