Emory & Henry Cross Country Opens The 2014 Season At ODAC Preview Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams got the season started Friday afternoon at the ODAC Preview Meet, hosted by Guilford College at the Guilford Meadows Course. The Wasp men finished fourth out of nine schools while the women were sixth of seven.

On the men's side, freshman Michael Cawood (Louisville, Ky.) turned in a 13th-place finish, running a 29:30 over the 8K course. Sophomore Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) was 17th in 29:38 while freshman Michael LoGrande (Alexandria, Va.) ran a 29:49 to finish 21st. Rounding out the top five for the Wasps was sophomore Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) (27th, 30:15) and Buck Kirtland (Richmond, Va.) (32nd, 30:21).

Harrison Toney of Roanoke College claimed individual honors, finishing in 28:37 while Bridgewater College went three through seven to earn the team victory.

The Emory & Henry women were paced by freshman Meg Greene (Charlotte, N.C.) as she turned in a 6K time of 26:57 to finish 17th. Freshman Olivia Wyatt (Independence, Va.) was 25th overall, running a 27:44 while junior Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) finished 37th with a 28:44. Junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) (34th, 29:06) and freshman Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) (48th, 29:16) made the top five for the Wasps.

Eastern Mennonite University's Katherine Lehman won the race with a time of 25:17. Bridgewater placed its top five within one second of one another, finishing fourth through eighth to claim the team title.

Emory & Henry will next compete on Saturday, September 13 in the John Tucker Invitational on the campus of Washington and Lee University.
