Emory & Henry Cross Country Surprises At Washington and Lee’s John Tucker Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams were back in action on Saturday morning at Washington and Lee University's John Tucker Invitational. The Wasp women finished third out of six teams while the E&H men finished fifth out of seven.

In the women's race, freshman Meg Greene (Charlotte, N.C.) turned in a strong performance with a fourth-place finish. The Myers Park High School product covered the 5K course in 21:34. Freshman Olivia Wyatt (Independence, Va.) was 11th overall, running a 22:44. Emory & Henry's top five was rounded out by freshman Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) (24:02, 25th), junior Gabbie Rhodes (24:08, 27th) and junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) (24:33, 29th).

Washington and Lee's Alana Babington won the event with a time of 20:45 while the team title went to Roanoke College, which put its first five runners in top 10.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) led the way as he ran an 8K time of 29:41 to finish ninth. Sophomore Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) was second for the Wasps, turning in a time of 30:58 for a 27th-place finish. Freshman Buck Kirtland (Richmond, Va.) was 31st, clocking a 31:09 while sophomore Jackson Feezell (Gastonia, N.C.) finished 36th in 32:00. Freshman Michael Cawood (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the top five despite battling an illness.

Roanoke College's Harrison Toney earned medalist honors as he ran 27:46. Washington and Lee put four runners in the top seven to take the team trophy.

Emory & Henry will next compete at the Winthrop Invitational next Saturday in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
