Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes In Berry Invitational Saturday Morning

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed at the Berry Invitational on Saturday morning. The meet served as the preview for the 2014 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championship, which will take place on the morning of Saturday, November 15. Technical difficulties with the race's timing system delayed the release of official results until Sunday.

In the women's 6K race, Emory & Henry placed 15th out of 20 scoring schools. The Wasps were the 10th NCAA Division III program in the field.

Freshman Olivia Wyatt (Independence, Va.) led E&H with a school-record time of 26:15 to finish in 91st place. Freshman Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) was second for the Wasps in 26:48 while junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) finished third in 26:55. Rounding out the top five for Emory & Henry was junior Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) and freshman Kaitlynn Stowers (Round Rock, Texas), running times of 27:56 and 28:06, respectively.

Effiey Kosgei of Florida A&M University won the race, clocking a 22:08, to lead the Rattlers to the team championship. The fastest Division III runner was the University of Texas-Tyler's Carly Kitts with a time of 23:17 across the 6K course.

The Emory & Henry men notched a eighth-place finish in the race among 19 competing schools. The Wasps finished as the seventh Division III school.

Sophomore Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) covered the course in 27:38 to lead the Wasps, a time that was just nine seconds off the school record, finishing in 35th place. Freshman Michael Cawood (Louisville, Ky.) was second for E&H, turning in a time of 28:07 while junior Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) recorded a 28:39 to come in third on the team. Sophomore Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) and freshman Michael LoGrande (Alexandria, Va.) rounded out the top five with times of 28:55 and 29:22, respectively.

Shorter College's Silos Too covered the course in 24:00 while Roanoke College's Harrison Toney was the first Division III runner, clocking a 25:50. Texas-Tyler won the team title, placing three runners in the top 20.

Emory & Henry will next compete at the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, November 1 on the campus of Guilford College.
