VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Cross Country Team turned in an eighth-place finish out of 12 competing teams at the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships Saturday morning. It is the second-straight year that the Wasps have finished eighth in the league championship meet.

The Results – 6K (3.73 miles)
- Freshman Alette McGuire (Chesapeake, Va.) broke her own school record with a time of 23:20 to finish 21st overall.
- Sophomore Erica Grupp (Charlottesville, Va.) was Emory & Henry's number two, taking 34th place in 24:23.
- Junior Kelly Light (Blountville, Tenn.) was 58th in the race (26:04) while junior McKenna Tankersley (Big Stone Gap, Va.) stopped the watches in 28:29 to take 69th.
- Sophomore Maddie Copenhaver (Glade Spring, Va.) went a 28:55 which was good for 71st overall while junior Annie Kate Leinius (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) rounded out the team with a 32:32 (91st).
The Leaders
- Washington and Lee University won the overall championship with six runners in the top 14, including the sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-place finishers.
- Virginia Wesleyan's Marissa Coombs claimed medalist honors, covering the course in 22:01, to best Eastern Mennonite University's Michaela Mast by 11 seconds.
- Lynchburg was the team runner-up while EMU placed third.

- Emory & Henry will complete the 2017 season at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championship on Saturday, November 11.
- Christopher Newport University will serve as the host for this year's regional meet.
