Emory & Henry Women’s Cross Country Takes Sixth At ODAC Championship Saturday

KERNSTOWN, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Cross Country Team posted a program-best finish at the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday. The Wasps finished sixth out of 12 competing schools, reaching the top half of the league for the first time in program history. All seven of E&H's runners clocked season-best times at the 6K distance.

The meet was held at the Kernstown Battlefield outside of Winchester, Virginia with Shenandoah University serving as this year's host.

The Results – 6K (3.7 miles)
- Sophomore Alette McGuire (Chesapeake, Va.) posted a time of  25:39 to finish 30th overall while junior Erica Grupp (Charlottesville, Va.) was 43rd in 26:23.
- Seniors McKenna Tankersley (Big Stone Gap, Va.) and Lauren Fleming (Troutville, Va.) finished 53rd and 54th with times of 27:17 and 27:21, respectively.
- Finishing fifth for the team was freshman Lia Haskins (Danville, Va.) in 31:57 which was good for 79th.
- Junior Maddie Copenhaver (Glade Spring, Va.)  went 32:02 while senior Annie Kate Leinius (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) clocked a 37:01 to round out the team.

The Leaders
- Washington and Lee University won the overall championship, placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 15 while the University of Lynchburg was just five points back, also placing its top five in the first 15.
- Bridgewater College's Calista Ariel won the individual title, finishing in 22:16, just two seconds ahead of W&L's Samantha Yates.

- Emory & Henry will complete the 2018 season at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championship on Saturday, November 10.
- Berry College will serve as the host for this year's regional meet.
