Emory & Henry Women’s Cross Country Takes Second At EMU Heritage Invitational Behind Looney’s Medalist Finish

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams got the 2023 season underway on Friday evening with a pair of strong showings at the Mennonite Heritage Invitational, hosted by Eastern Mennonite University.

The men's team had 11 of the top 16 runners including four of the top six on their way to the team title. The Wasps' women's squad was the runner-up in the event with freshman Jessi Looney (Grundy, Va.) claiming medalist honors.

The Women – 5K (3.11 miles)
- Looney crossed the line first in 19:47, two seconds ahead of second place. Freshman Trinity Neff (Grottoes, Va.) was third with a time of 19:52 while sophomore Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) took eighth in 20:37.
- Freshman Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) notched a top-10 finish at 20:52 with sophomore Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) placing 15th (21:34).
- Freshman Lauren Micheal (Salem, Va.) and redshirt freshman Maddy Fiscus (Crockett, Va.) were 21st and 22nd, respectively while freshman Hannah Rosen (Falls Church, Va.) notched a 24th-place finish.

The Men – 5K (3.11 miles)
- Freshman Kaleb Elswick (Big Rock, Va.) was the individual runner-up completing the course in 16:14 to lead the Wasps. Sophomore Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) and sophomore Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) were third and fourth overall in 16:21 and 16:22, respectively.
- Sophomore Logan Choplin (Manassas, Va.) clocked a 16:38 to take sixth with freshman Heath Bowker (Salem, Va.) placing 10th in 16:58.
- E&H saw freshman Davis Norman (Salem, Va.), junior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.), freshman Leo Mantoan (Woodbridge, Va.), freshman Hillis Roberson, IV (Rosenburg, Texas), junior Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) and freshman Aiden Trautman (Centreville, Md.) finish between 11th and 16th.
