Rhodes Men’s Soccer Routs Emory & Henry, 6-0, In Jim ‘N Nick’s/PUMA Labor Day Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Rhodes College Men's Soccer Team (1-0) opened up a 2-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat Emory & Henry College (0-1) by a 6-0 score Friday evening at the Jim 'N Nick's/PUMA Labor Day Classic on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College.

The Lynx were led by a pair of braces from Jason Crutcher (19th and 28th minutes) and Evan Wladis (47th and 59th minutes) in the victory. Jonathan Fisher had a pair of assists while Alex Rhodes and Eric Ly had a goal and an assist each.

Though E&H managed just nine shots on the night compared to 23 for Rhodes, freshman midfielders Zach Quest (Charlotte, N.C.) and Ian Smith (Waynesville, N.C.) each put one of their two attempts on frame. Junior midfielder Kenny Sterne (Lynchburg, Va.) and sophomore defender Tory Schneider (Williamsburg, Va.) each had shots on goal as well for the Wasps.

Rhodes goalkeeper Riley Sheen picked up the shutout win with four saves while E&H freshman Joe Kedanis (Carmel, Ind.) stopped three shots despite the loss.

The Lynx held an 8-4 advantage on corner kicks as well despite being called offside seven times. RC was cited for 11 fouls with E&H only committing seven offenses.

Emory & Henry will next compete on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 CDT) against Birmingham-Southern.
