Emory & Henry Cross Country Teams Compete At Converse Kick Off Saturday Morning

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Cross Country got their first taste of a NCAA Division II regional event on Saturday morning, competing at the Converse Kick Off. The men's team took 22nd out of 26 competing schools while the women were 19th out of 23 teams in what served as the de facto Southeast Region preview meet.

The Men – 8K (4.97 miles)
- Senior Conor White (Warrenton, Va.) ran a 27:41 to finish 57th overall, leading the Wasps while freshman Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) clocked a 29:38.
- Freshman Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) and freshman Kobus Wilkinson (Hickory, N.C.) went 31:11 and 31:48, respectively as senior Lucas Biggerstaff (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out the scorers with a 33:51.
- UNC Pembroke's Joshua Chepkesir won the event with a time of 25:02 besting Cas Kopmels of Mount Olive University by seven seconds.
- Emory University won the team title with all five of its scoring runners placing between ninth and 17th.

The Women – 6K (3.73 miles)
- Freshman Arriona Holiz (Portsmouth, Va.) posted a 26:17 as she nearly cracked the top 100 at 102nd while sophomore Annalyse McHone (Shawsville, Va.) sophomore Madeline Bishop (Collinsville, Va.) finished in 27:40 and 27:41, respectively.
- Freshman Laney Stogdale (New Hope, Va.) went a 28:55 as freshman Morgan Lietz (Moneta, Va.) stopped the watches in 31:32.
- Lenoir-Rhyne University won the team title with four runners in the top 12 including the third- and fourth-place finishers. Wingate University's Lara Orrock was the individual winner at 21:43, topping the competition by nine seconds.
