Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball To Host Play 4Kay Game Saturday, February 9

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team will host its annual Play 4Kay game on Saturday, February 9, at the John Rutledge King Center. The Wasps will take on the Hornets of Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play beginning at 2:00 p.m. The contest will be the first of a doubleheader with the E&H men, who are set to face Lynchburg at 4:00 p.m. All fans in attendance are asked to wear pink in support of the cause.

"The fact that women's basketball chooses to pay such close attention and bring awareness to breast cancer is a big deal," said Head Coach Rose Katz. "I am looking forward to our first Play 4Kay Day and believe that it will be the first of many successful events that we hold for this cause."

There will be raffle tickets sold at the door for several prizes, with all ticket sales going to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Cash and checks will be accepted.

"Pink day is very important for me personally because a coach I previously worked for is a breast cancer survivor," added Katz. "It's inspiring to see how she came through that at a very young age and is now a successful coach. I have had family members that have been affected by breast cancer as well."

The game is a part of an 11-day, nationwide campaign which is coordinated by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise awareness and funds to aid in cancer research in conjunction with The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Prior to the 2011-12 season, the Play 4Kay movement was known as the WBCA Pink Zone. The justification for the change was that the leaders of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund wished to keep the story and legacy of Coach Yow at the forefront of this movement. Since its inception in 2007, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has seen its reach grow dramatically and has raised over $7 Million for cancer research.
