Intermont Equestrian To Begin Championship Season This Weekend

Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College

BRISTOL, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College teams will compete in a trio of national championship shows over the next four weekends. The program currently boasts 19 team national titles and 32 individual championships.

American National Riding Commission
The ANRC Intercollegiate Equitation Championship will be hosted by Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, Virginia. The championship is divided into National and Novice Levels and consists of four different sections across three days. ANRC is different from the other championships in that the horses come from the participating schools instead of via blind draw.

Day one consists of the Novice Derby Phase and Program Ride.  The second day will begin with the National Program Ride and continue with the Derby Phase. The Written Phase will take place on the evening of day two. Schedueld for the third day is the Medal Phase for both the National and Novice divisions. The top two scores for each team are counted and the sections are weighted in the following manner: Written (5%), Derby (30%), Medal (30%) and Program Ride (35%).

Intercollegiate Dressage Association
The IDA National Championships will be held at Lake Erie College's George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center in Mentor, Ohio. The championship will be split in three parts, the quiz challenge, individual championship and team championship which will be contested on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday respectively.

E&H's representative for the quiz challenge will be senior Odessa Thacker (Yorktown, Va.).

Emory & Henry will have four riders competing on individual day. The Wasps won the Region H Championship in three of the four individual levels, earning automatic qualification for nationals. E&H also had one rider finish as the reserve champion and based on the IDA Wild Card tiebreaker will compete at the national show.

Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association
After two years in Kentucky, the IHSA National Finals will be contested at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The championship will see competition scattered over four days with one individual rider for E&H competing on Thursday, May 3.
