Emory & Henry Track & Field Continues Its Success At Joe LaRocco Invitational Saturday

SALEM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Indoor Track & Field Teams returned to Cregger Field House on the campus of Roanoke College to compete at the Joe LaRocco on Saturday. The Wasps saw five school records fall during the day, three by the men's team and two by the women's squad.

Top Men's Performances
- Freshman Justin Williams (Suffolk, Va.) was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a school-record time of 8.80 seconds.
- Junior Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) reclaimed his record in the mile at 4:33.04 to finish third while freshmen Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) and Kaleb Elswick (Big Rock, Va.) were eighth (4:40.11) and ninth (4:42.15), respectively.
- The Wasps grabbed a pair of second-place finishes in the relays. The distance medley relay of freshmen Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.), Hillis Roberson, IV (Rosenburg, Texas), Heath Bowker (Salem, Va.) and sophomore Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) went more than three seconds faster than the previous record to finish second at 10:52.10. E&H's B relay took third with a time of 10:58.63.
- In the 4x400 meter relay, Kegler, Roberson, junior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) and Heath Bowker were the runners-up at 3:28.08.
- Sophomore Tyrique Taylor (Christiansburg, Va.) led the field events, placing third in the shot put at 13.97 meters while junior Zadok Laryea (Ruther Glen, Va.) was 10th (12.54m). Freshman Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was fifth in the triple jump (13.07m) and seventh in the long jump (6.11m) while freshman Joseph Ihlenburg (Roanoke, Va.) placed seventh in the triple jump at 12.44 meters.

Women's Top Performances
- Sophomore Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) destroyed the previous school record in the 3,000 meters by more than 24 seconds, running a 10:43.27 to finish fourth. Freshmen Maddy Fiscus (Rural Retreat, Va.) and Hannah Rosen (Falls Church, Va.) each tallied top-20 performances.
- Sophomore Scarlett Eversley (Dumfries, Va.) placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.78 seconds and was 15th in the triple jump, marking a 9.57 meters. Freshman Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) was 11th in the mile at 5:34.87.
- The 60 meters saw freshman Ella Knight (Graham, N.C.) finish 11th at 8.49 seconds with junior Chloe Jones (Harrison, Tenn.) taking 17th (:08.73). Knight placed 19th in the long jump at 4.50 meters.
- Junior Michelle Diaz (Woodbridge, Va.) broke the E&H record in the 200 meters, posting a :28.34 to finish 29th. Freshman McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) placed 14th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.43 as sophomore Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 17th in the 400 meters after a 1:04.53.

- Emory & Henry will have a pair of meets this coming weekend. The Wasps will send a select group of athletes to George Mason University's Father Diamond Invitational on Friday with the rest of the team competing in the JDL Last Chance Invitational at JDL Fast Track on Saturday.
