Emory & Henry Women’s Track & Field Breaks Three Records At JDL Early Bird Invitational Sunday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Indoor Track & Field Teams got the 2022-23 season underway on Sunday at the JDL Early Bird Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The women's team set three new program records while the men's team also set a new program best.

Top Men's Performances
- Sophomore Zavery Wallace (Buena Vista, Va.) earned a pair of top-five finishes, taking third in the shot put (14.32m) and set a new program record in the weight throw with a distance of 15.77 meters, good enough for third. Fellow sophomore Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) had two top-five finishes of his own, finishing fourth in the shot put (13.53m) and fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.13 meters.
- Sophomore Zedrick Yeboah (Fredericksburg, Va.) was ninth in the 400 meters with a time of :52.40.
- Sophomore Hayden Oglesby (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up a sixth-place finish in the 600 meters in 1:38.24.
- Freshmen Willie Burns, Jr. (Woodbridge, Va.) and Jaden Griggs (Maryville, Tenn.) each finished in the top ten of the 1,000 meters, with Burns, Jr.'s 2:54.05 good enough for eighth and Griggs' 3:12.34 placing him in tenth. 

Women's Top Performances
- Freshman Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) finished tenth in the 800 meters and set a new program record with a time of 2:35.00, while classmate Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) placed 16th posting a 2:50.66. Freshman Sydney Bonney (Bristol, Va.) rounded out the Wasps effort with a 21st place finish and a time of 3:07.13.
- Freshman Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted another new program best with a 1:05.34 in the 400 meters, finishing in 18th. Sophomore Michelle Diaz (Woodbridge, Va.) finished 22nd with a 1:09.28.
- Freshman Scarlett Eversley (Dumfries, Va.) set the third program record of the afternoon with a time of :10.44 in the 60m hurdles.
- In the throws, freshman Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) led the Wasps by finishing 19th in the shot put (8.94m) and 15th in the weight throw (9.60m). Freshman Madison Osborne (Glade Spring, Va.) was 21st in the shot put at 8.52 meters and placed 18th in the weight throw (7.75m).

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will travel to Salem, Virginia this Friday and Saturday to participate in the Cregger Invitational, hosted by former Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Roanoke College.
