Emory & Henry Track & Field Opens The Outdoor Season At Bridgewater Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Outdoor Track & Field Teams opened the 2023 spring season at the Doc Jopson Invitational on Saturday. The women's program smashed five different program records while the men's team also set five new bests.

Top Men's Performances
- Sophomore Bryce Cobler (Meadowview, Va.) notched an 11th-place finish in the 100 meters at :11.65.
- Sophomore Zedrick Yeboah (Fredericksburg, Va.) finished 13th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.10. Sophomore Hayden Oglesby (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up an 18th-place finish with a posted pace of 23.86.
- Yeboah broke his own program record in the 400 meters with a time of 50.73, good enough for sixth place. Freshman T.J. Pecina (Saltville, Va.) finished in 14th with a 52.11.
- Freshman Cody Pecina (Saltville, Va.) picked up eighth place with his 2:03.42 in the 800 meters.
- Freshman Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) placed ninth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:55.72 while fifth-year Lucas Biggerstaff (Knoxville, Tenn.) bested his record in the 10,000 meters by over a minute and a half at 39:09.73.
- Freshman Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) set a new marker for program best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with his time of 10:37.16, placing him in fifth.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of Yeboah, Oglesby, Pecina and Pecina smashed the old program best with a time of 3:29.55 and a fourth-place finish.
- Senior Colby Martin (Fork Union, Va.) picked up a sixth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump with leaps of 5.75 meters and 12.06 meters respectively.
- Sophomore Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) smashed his own program best in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.79 meters for fifth place and finished third in the discus with a throw of 41.80 meters. Freshman Tyrique Taylor (Christiansburg, Va.) finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.35 meters and fourth in the discus with a 41.19-meter throw.

Women's Top Performances
- Freshman Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) broke the program record in the 1,500 meters with her 5:20.95, good enough for fifteenth.
- Freshman Scarlett Eversley (Dumfries, Va.) set a new program best in the 100 meter hurdles, posting a time of 16.08 and taking home fourth. Freshman Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished in ninth place with her 17.40 time.
- Ricketts posted a new program record in the 400 meter hurdles with her fourth-place finish and posted time of 1:09.20. Eversley placed eighth with her time of 1:15.23.
- The 4X400 meter relay team of sophomore Michelle Diaz (Woodbridge, Va.), sophomore Chloe Jones (Harrison, Tenn.), Ricketts and Eversley combined for a new program best time of 4:36.70.
- Freshman Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) picked up a 14th-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 9.41 meters and also placed 15th in the hammer throw with a toss of 32.99 meters.
- Junior Michaela Fiscus (Rural Retreat, Va.) broke the program record in the javelin with her throw of 22.36 meters, placing her in 14th.

- Emory & Henry makes the trip to Fredericksburg, Virginia next Saturday for the Battleground Relays hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
