Emory & Henry Track & Field Opens The Postseason At SAC Outdoor Championships Wednesday

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Track & Field Teams got the postseasons started at the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Anderson (S.C.) University. 

The men's team sits in seventh place as they saw sophomore Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) earn E&H's first-ever individual SAC Championship as he won the hammer throw.

The women's squad broke five school records as freshman Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Men
- Event 5 – 400-Meter Dash –
Sophomore Zedrick Yeboah (Fredericksburg, Va.) finished in 22nd with his time of 50.81. Freshman T.J. Pecina (Saltville, Va.) was 33rd with a 52.72 while sophomore Hayden Oglesby (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished in 34th with a time of 52.89.
- Event 7 – 800-Meter Run – Sophomore Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) took 15th with a posted time of 2:00.20 while freshman Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) was 22nd with a 2:03.61. Freshman Logan Choplin (Manassas, Va.) finished 25th and fellow classmate Cody Pecina (Saltville, Va.) was 26th with times of 2:05.43 and 2:06.02 respectively.
- Event 29 – Long Jump – Sophomore Zadok Laryea (Ruther Glen, Va.) finished 26th with a recorded distance of 5.82 meters.
- Event 37 – Hammer Throw – Lee made history as he became the first athlete in E&H program history to win an individual SAC Championship. He smashed his program record with a throw of 55.99 meters to take home the medalist honors. Fellow sophomore Zavery Wallace (Buena Vista, Va.) placed fourth with a toss of 50.01 meters.

The Women
- Event 10 – 1,500-Meter Run – Freshman Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) set a new program record as she smashed the previous mark by over seven seconds. Her time of 5:00.56 was good enough for a 14th-place finish.
- Event 14 – 10,000-Meter Run – Junior Madeline Bishop (Collinsville, Va.) laid down a new program standard with a 55:34.15 to finish 14th.
- Event 15 – 100-Meter Hurdles – Freshman Scarlett Eversley (Dumfries, Va.) broke her own program best with a time of 15.42 to finish in 13th.
- Event 18 – 400-Meter Hurdles – Ricketts qualified for finals with a sixth-place finish. Her time of 1:07.29 set a program record as she topped her own previous high mark. Eversley was 19th with a time of 1:14.29.
- Event 20 – 3,000-Meter Steeplechase – Freshman Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) finished ninth with a posted time of 13:05.52.
- Event 38 – Hammer Throw – Freshman Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) broke the program record with a toss of 36.29 meters to place her in 18th. Freshmen Madison Osborne (Glade Spring, Va.) and Catie Leonard (Gray, Tenn.) finished 23rd and 24th with distances of 32.52 meters and 28.22 meters respectively. Sophomore Avery Word (Fincastle, Va.) was 25th with a throw of 27.45 meters while freshman Hope Shockley (Abingdon, Va.) finished 27th with a 25.84-meter toss. Junior Michaela Fiscus (Rural Retreat, Va.) was 28th with a 25.84-meter distance.
- Event 40 – Javelin Throw – Fiscus picked up a 14th-place finish with a throw of 24.25 meters.
